Recently Wicked 2 was released in theaters which follows the story of the original movie Wicked.  The movie Wicked was made in 2024. It’s a musical/fantasy movie based off the Broadway musical and books called Wicked made in 2003.  This movie takes place in the Land of Oz (known from the movie The Wonderful Wizard of Oz) and it’s about a girl named Elphaba who grows up being different than everyone around her.  She’s seen as weird because she has green skin but has gained an oddly profound relationship with her best friend the popular student Glinda.  But slowly their relationship starts to become more complex but they manage to keep the same connection. They eventually made a continuation the following year called “Wicked: For Good” which demonstrates more thoroughly on the growth separating the characters. 

Serenity: I personally think the movie “Wicked” was a good movie and mostly stays along the lines of the books and musical. I like the focus on Glinda and Elphaba instead of Dorothy.  This is definitely different but it shows a better point of view as to how the characters become the way they are. Overall I like the casting and songs because what’s better than the main character of a musical movie to be one of the biggest pop stars recently?  In particular the song, “One Short Day” stands out as my favorite

Kyeanna:  Wicked 2 is good but the ending could’ve been better. I feel like in my perspective I don’t really see the similarities to Wicked and The Wizard of Oz but when I read the book I understood the plot better. I also liked the characters a lot but I feel like they shouldn’t have made the actor of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) go bald for the role.

Serenity: I think the movies were great, I seen specific similarities but the perspectives threw me off like how instead of it being Dorothy’s perspective similar to the Wizard of Oz it’s instead Glinda and Elphaba. I loved how certain scenes were displayed as well, I think the actors could’ve been definitely better but since it’s a musical it’s understandable.

Critic and viewer reviews for the movie are overall high with a rounded answer of 7.3/10 . The movie has shown this amazing effort by winning awards such as “ Golden Globe Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” and “The Critics’ Choice Movie Award.”
