Background
There are many exciting sports around the world but few compare to bike racing. Like most high speed sports bike racing requires a lot of endurance and stamina. As you might guess, bike racing is where several cyclists begin to race against one another to cross the finish line first. Most races are not that simple as racers have to traverse through difficult areas and maintain their endurance. Race Across America (RAAM) is one of the world’s most extreme and difficult races as it is approximately 3,000 miles long! Another famous bike race is the Tour de France which is one of the most famous annual cycling events which is held in France with an audience of over 1 billion watching globally. If you have interest in watching the Tour de France the next one starts on Saturday, July 4 2026.
While this sport might sound exhausting and too challenging for some, for many participants it creates a sense of adrenaline rush and could be even considered exciting. Bike racing can make you feel more disciplined and can strengthening your body while also helping you to make new friends.
Where to Try Bike Racing
When first giving bike racing a try you should first of course get a bike and a bike I would recommend to beginners is to try out the Trek Domane AL-3 because it’s pretty comfortable. Second, you should try some local cycling clubs to gain some experience and get into the groove of cycling which will eventually help you start off your bike racing career. If you live in NYC, a club I recommend joining is the Five Borough Cycling Club because of it’s friendly community and helps you build your endurance/stamina slowly but surely. Many city streets have dedicated bike lanes along the parked cars. These green painted lanes are a place for bikes to travel through the city. Give them a try to see how biking can get you around the neighborhood faster! Emmanuel Mezquita, a TCA student who is a frequent bicycle rider spoke with TCA Heights about his experience riding a bike in New York. “The best thing about New York is you can find anywhere to ride your bike in and venture out.” Mr. Mezquita went on to say, “I would probably try it because bike racing is even though it’s competitive, I would do it for fun with like friends.”
