TCA Junior Gets the Surprise of a Lifetime

TCA junior Marcus Peguero got the surprise of a lifetime on December 14, 2022 when he was awarded a $10,000 college scholarship.  The prize was granted through the College Board and was presented during the 11th grade town hall meeting by College Board representative Tiffany Gomez.  Peguero became eligible for the substantial scholarship upon completing a free career survey during a future planning session completed in English class.

This award was a surprise to Marcus and his entire family. “I feel surprised, but I did not expect to win at all. I am very confident about my school relationship and grades. But I am very happy that I did receive this scholarship!” he told reporters Alex Ramos and Oliver Castillo.  Marcus enjoys history class and has plans to attend Miami University.  “Mostly I want to attend Miami University for sports (baseball), but the campus is amazing.”

Present for the unforgettable moment was and Peguero’s mother, father and sister.  Marcus’ dad Mike Peguero was surprised and felt emotional upon learning about this scholarship.  “I was very emotional, and I thanked God. I did not know anything, I just found out.”  When asked about his expectations for his son Mr. Peguero stated, “I just want him to keep up his school work and get good grades.  Hopefully, he goes to the college he wants to go to.”

District Superintendent Manuel Ramriez offered congratulations to Marcus but also gave some advice to the 11th graders in the audience.  “Keep in mind that, nobody, not even your parents, are going to help you when you have to do things for you.”
