This Tuesday March 25, The College Academy will be assessed in a process known as a quality review. According to The NYC Department of Education website, “The Quality Review (QR) is a process rooted in the NYC School Quality Rubric to evaluate how well schools are organized to support student learning and teacher practice. The Quality Review process was developed to assist NYC Public Schools in raising student achievement by looking behind a school’s performance statistics to ensure that the school is engaged in effective methods of accelerating student learning.” All levels of our school will be examined by an outside observer throughout the entire school day. This is an opportunity for our school to present its accomplishments and it’s also a chance for us, as students and teachers, to learn how to grow.
A quality review is a chance for students to step up and show what’s great about TCA. So how exactly can students get involved? According to TCA assistant principal Ms. Cadet-Duval, “So as you know…one of the things that students can do during the QR, is ask questions, participate and don’t be shy just because there are people in the room. Making sure you’re reflective of our school by following school procedures and routines being a part of the community.”
Here are ways you can do YOUR part.
- Follow TCA’s “I am College Ready” procedures.
- Be communicative whenever you are misunderstanding something while in a class, like asking for help.
- Use appropriate language and be respectful (of course!)
- If possible, wear any TCA gear that you may have to be enthusiastic.
Our last quality review was back in 2020. Here’s a link to that report.
