Guyana is a small country in the middle of South America. It takes pretty long to get there from New York, 5 hours to be exact. The capital of this country is Georgetown, located in one of the richest parts of Guyana. There is much to love about this beautiful country but Guyana is especially well known for its spicy foods and religion.
The History and Religion
History in Guyana is really interesting! Guyana had a colonial past. The British and Dutch ruled over Guyana in 1796 being their land for 200 years. Guyana is mostly Known for being Hindu but if you did not know we have other religions like Pentecostal, Roman Catholic, Muslim and more. Our country is not really known like that but we come from a long way. There is a reason Guyana is such a unique mix of cultures and religion. Guyana got its name when Sir Walter Raleigh discovered the land naming it “Guiana”. This was a name for a larger region which included modern day Guyana in it as well.
Is Guyana safe to live or is it not
Guyana is safe in my opinion because many people over there are really nice and wonderful to be around. But this is not what everyone else thinks. According to GOV.UK
It states that “Crime levels are high and police capacity is low”. As a man with Guyanese heritage I think this is false. Traveling to a place like Kingston, another quieter city I feel it’s unusual to see anything unsafe happen. I typically go to the market where it’s all quiet. If you go there and stay for a week or month and do stuff like going to the beach , partying at the clubs and eating at the famous restaurants you will see the real Guyana- it’s not all crime and violence!
What are the events that happen in Guyana
The events that happen in Guyana are the festivals. These festivals are to symbolize the spirit of Guyana swinging flags around dressing up in their favorite costumes. Another event that happens in Guyana is The music performances of Georgetown Rappers that are famous in Guyana like Terry Gajraj, Eddy Grant, And Eddie Hooper ETC. It is always
packed whenever it comes to Events like this. No space to move everyone jumping and dancing. It is very fun though.
Three “Must Do” Things in Guyana
- Going out to eat on your birthday I recommend The Cottage . It’s a nice place to go with their variety of foods but the best part is. Walking in there on your birthday i say this because they will give you half off on your purchases also giving you There free cake to eat and share with your whole family. This place is located in 16 Access Road, Mud-Lot, Kingston, Georgetown, Guyana
- The beach Going to “Beach 63” the main one everyone goes to high waters and nice sunset. This is where main events happen like 4 Wheel Driving, Rides, ETC. The water over there is not really nice since it’s a lot of salt water but if you go in there and stay for 10-15 minutes it will make your body feel nice and soothing. The beach 63 is located in the southeast Atlantic coast close to the Suriname border
- The hotels admiring the structure and the way they built it is very nice. The staff are super friendly like for example the “Marriott Hotel” is one of the topmost reviewed places to visit in Georgetown with their morning breakfast and their hourly lunches. Also they have events for you to visit everyday going from michael jackson to all you can eat buffet i would recommend going Block Alpha Battery Road, Georgetown, Guyana.
