Perks of Driving
Do you ever wish to hangout with your friends somewhere a little too far from home and mom or dad can’t take you there? All of your friends just have fun without you! An easy way to solve this problem is to learn how to drive and get your driver’s license. There are tons of benefits of gaining one. You can go wherever you want (as long as you have permission of course). You can also drive yourself to school, job interviews, you can even drive your parents to their jobs. Driving is also a good way to calm down and get rid of stress (well unless your driving on the local highways). With all these wonderful things you must be asking yourself how DO I get a drivers license? Well we will tell you in 9 easy steps.
Getting a Learner’s Permit
First you’ll need to get a learners permit which requires you to pass a test. To prepare for the test, start by obtaining the Driver’s Manual. You can find a free version online or purchase a physical copy. Once you have the manual, begin your studies by focusing on chapters 4 through 11. First, review the basic rules of the road covered in chapters 4 to 7. These chapters will teach you how to read road signs and turn properly. Next, focus on chapters 8 to 11, especially Chapter 9. This chapter is particularly important, as many trick questions on the permit test revolve around its content. After that, print out an NYC practice test booklet and complete all the questions. Additionally, seek out practice tests available online. Finally, review the practice test packet one last time before the test day. With this preparation, you’ll be ready to take the test.
When the day finally arrives for you to take your permit test, be sure you are confident in your understanding of the rules and regulations of the road, as well as the meanings of various traffic signs. It’s also crucial to have a solid grasp of the concept of right of way and the effects of alcohol and drugs on a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle. When you’re ready to take the test, remember that you need to answer at least 14 out of 20 questions correctly to pass. Good luck!
Congratulations on passing the learner’s permit test! Now, you need to obtain your physical learner permit. Here’s a clearer process to follow:
- Complete the Application Form: Fill out the form to ensure you’re ready to receive your learner permit.
- Make a DMV Appointment: Schedule an appointment at your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
- Gather Required Documents: You will need the following documents:
– Passport
– School transportation form
– Birth certificate
– Social Security card
– High school photo ID
– Proof of address
Pay the Fee: Once you have all your documents ready, visit the DMV. Be prepared to pay a fee, which typically ranges from $68.72 to $120.00 for a learner’s permit. Make sure to double-check that you have everything you need before your appointment. Good luck!
Practice, Practice, Practice!
After obtaining your permit, you’re now eligible to start practicing legally on the road! The first step is to have an instructor or supervisor, either an official NYC instructor either from an educational program by the state or at least an U.S. driver who is at least the age of 21, qualified to drive under that vehicle. Then you must drive in a legal automatic car, most preferably an educational one, which is under the requirements for safe driving. The student driver must gain roughly around 24-50 hours of driving on the road, but it is dependent on the educational program you instill. As well, later on in your learning path, depending on your educational program, you will be faced with driving in difficult situations. For example, driving under these conditions (rain, snow, nighttime), which is necessary for your skills.
Road Test
After gaining your permit, if you’re under the age of 18, you must wait 6 months until taking the test. If you’re 18 or older, you only have to wait 3–10 weeks to take the test. With your instructor, it is vital to pay attention when practicing for the road test, for the road test consists of a 3-section test, the pre-drive diagnostic test, the actual road test, and the parking test. When taking the road test, you must follow every instruction from the instructor and be mindful of actions that are correct, which the instructor will not say. If you fail the test, don’t fret; you can take it as many times as you need to pass. But be wary when taking the road test; each mistake can result in 5, 10, or 15 points; the cutoff for test failure is 30 mistake points.
Getting Your Driver’s License
After your test you have to wait for your results. If you manage to pass your test, good for you! You’ll get your driver’s license within 2 weeks. However If you fail it’s ok you can always take it again but you must wait for a week before taking it again. You also must pay for your second test and this is how you pay for the redo.
- Have a valid learner permit or driver license
- Provide your DMV ID Number from your Learner Permit (Client ID Number) and your date of birth
- Have no other road tests currently available
- Pay the fee with a credit or debit card
You’ll need to renew your licenses after 8 years or else it’ll become invalid. You can go to the DMV and here is what you need to do when you get there.
- A completed renewal notice (MV-2). If you did not receive a renewal notice, use an Application for Permit, Driver License, or Non-Driver ID Card (PDF) (MV-44)
- Your current license
- Payment: by credit/debit card or a check or money order made out to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles
And just like that you can drive to wherever you want to (With permission of course). Now you can hangout with your friends pretty much anyways now like six flags, your neighbors house for no reason, to your doctors appointment it’s your choice.
