I recently interviewed several students from different places, who are currently students at TCA. I wanted to hear their own opinions and experiences when studying in the United States and the country they come from. To understand, I interviewed student Mohamed Aboubacar (Grade 12), who spent several of his years earning an education in the United States and West Africa. This led me to interview him because I wanted to understand his experience in the United States and the country he studied in during his childhood.
Where did you study?
“I studied in West Africa in Togo and the United States.”
How many years have you studied in West Africa?
I am going to say 11 years and in the United States would be my 5th year.”
How was the curriculum in West Africa compared to the United States?
“ Africa was more difficult since here school is easy. In Africa, we actually have to pass your exam if you don’t want to retake the class again. Here if you fail one class you can just retake that class. But over there you retake everything if you fail, because they combine every class we take like every other class for that same year.”
What were the resources teachers were providing you in West Africa to learn more compared to the United States?
“Here I would say when it came to science they have more resources here.”
