Over the break I recently started a new Netflix series called “ All American. The show has five seasons with 16 episodes. I’m currently on season three and so far I would definitely recommend this show to others because there’s a lot of interesting drama involved in every episode. Here’s a synopsis of the series so far.
The main character is Spencer who grew up in Crenshaw, an all black neighborhood that has gangs involved. But Spencer was different; he was a talented football player and one of the best players just like his father Cory. His mother Grace always wanted a better life for him because she was a single mother for the past 8 years since Spencer dad left them and never returned. One day on the field a man named Billy Baker gave Spencer an opportunity to play football at his school which is in Beverly Hills, which meant Spencer would have to leave his mother and younger brother during the weekdays and would have to live with his coach. Even though it was a tough decision to make he agreed to it and his life goes through a big change.
Spencer then meets Billy Baker’s children who attend Beverly high school. The coach’s son Jordan was captain of the football team and he wasn’t much of a fan of Spencer because he was jealous his dad would train more with Spencer then with him. Then there’s Olivia who is Jordan’s twin but she’s nicer to Spencer and more welcoming. For Spencer it was hard adjusting to the new lifestyle because where he came from there wasn’t a lot of money and all the kids at Beverly were rich and had these huge mansions. Over time Spencer starts to fit into the community and he gains a better friendship with Jordan since they do live together.
However even though his life is starting to change he still makes sure to be with his mom and younger brother Dillion during the weekends, as well as hanging out with his best friend Coop. Spencer did notice that Coop has gotten herself into a lot of trouble lately and he’s worried that she will get involved with the wrong crowd, or maybe it’s too late? Back in Beverly Hills high school there was a football game and everyone loved Spencer because he’s one of the best football players there just like Jordan. On the field Spence then noticed his father on the bleachers with everyone else. He then got distracted but was more angry with him. After the game ended Spencer went to find his father and before he even said anything, his dad then told him that he was sorry for leaving and if he wants to know the reason he has to ask his mother. Spencer then stood there in shock because all those years he thought he wasn’t the best son only to find out his mother Gracie was hiding a secret from him. That same night Spencer’s coach went to Gracie’s house and told her “Corey is back, I think it’s time Spencer knows what really happens.” What was so important that Gracie had to hide a secret from Spencer for 8 years?
As you can see this is a series with lots of character based drama! And here’s an interesting fact: this show is based on a real life story of a NFL player Spencer Paysinger. So if you’re interested in a show that has to do with race, sports, gangs, this show is perfect for you. I would definitely give this show 10/10 stars so far.
