Our school The College Academy is big on preparing students to go to college and helping them choose what major they want to study. Senior year is where students have the opportunity to apply to colleges and submit their applications as well. Some students apply to CUNY or SUNY. They also apply for scholarships and financial aid which is a stressful process because there’s a lot of paperwork to do and it takes time. Since us seniors are going to college in the fall I decided to ask my teacher Andrew Averill about the college he went to and how was his experience.
Today I interviewed Andrew Averill who is my AP literature/ journalism teacher and I was able to ask him questions about the college he went to which was interesting to hear. The first question I was able to ask him was “Where did you go to college?” Mr Averill then responded with “For my undergraduate I went to Dickinson College which is in Carlisle Pennsylvania.” The next question I asked him was “Which major did you chose and why?” Mr. Averill then said “ I was a history major because I really liked social studies in high school, especially U.S history. I took AP US and I really liked the stories and the connections you can make.” The last question I asked Mr. Averill was “How did you pay for college?” He then responded with “My parents helped me a little with their money, I borrowed money and then I got grants. I definitely had student loan debt when I finished but I paid them off over time.”
